Opus Tower, Dubai, UAE

The void effect

Set in Burj Khalifa district adjacent to Downtown Dubai and Business bay on the Dubai Water Canal, the Opus is a 21-storey mirrored glass building occupied by a hotel, offices, serviced apartments and several restaurants.

Externally it appears to be a giant cube with an amorphous hole pushing through its center, when in fact it is a pair of towers connected at the top and bottom to create the void effect. During the day, the cube’s façade reflects the sky, the sun and the surrounding city; whilst at night, the void is illuminated by a dynamic light installation of individually controllable LEDs within each glass panel.

Built by Omniyat Properties, Opus Tower was designed by the famous award-winning British Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid and is known as an architectural wonder.
